Water NSW prices for the Murray River to Broken Hill Pipeline draft determination

PIAC lodged a submission in response to IPART’s draft determination on Water NSW prices for the Murray River to Broken Hill Pipeline.

PIAC welcomes confirmation that the NSW Government will deliver a significant subsidy for the pipeline’s costs in order to maintain water affordability for the community in the Broken Hill area, and we broadly support the draft determination, and the application of consistency and cost-reflectivity to access and usage charges for the pipeline.

PIAC raises concerns that the incremental costs of pipeline services do not relate to or address the scarcity and ongoing security of water resources in the Murray Darling, and highlight the need for future processes to explicitly consider the escalating impact of climate change and long term resource scarcity in water pricing.
