Treasury Laws Amendment (Improving the Energy Efficiency of Rental Properties) Bill 2018

PIAC wrote to the Senate Standing Committee on Environment and Communications regarding the Treasury Laws Amendment (Improving the Energy Efficiency of Rental Properties) Bill 2018. Whilst PIAC commended the overall concept and intent of the bill, we drew attention to some of its deficiencies including the narrow eligibility, the weak definition of energy efficient appliances and the tax offset cap. PIAC made suggestions to resolve these issues plus provided other broader policy options to improve the energy efficiency of rental properties.
