The Justice and Equity Centre has made a submission to the review of criminal law protections against hate speech for vulnerable communities, led by Honourable John Sackar AM KC. Our submission recommends:

  • Expanding protections to include other vulnerable communities, including women, LGBTIQ+ people, people with disability and all religions
  • Removing the religious exemption for hate-based conduct
  • Expanding non-legal measures to address the drivers of hatred in our community
