Watch: Challenging Injustice in Community Housing

After escaping domestic violence and experiencing homelessness, Bianca moved into community housing with her children. She believed she was finally getting the stability her family deserved.

But from the beginning, things didn’t go as expected.

Bianca paid her rent on time – but it kept increasing. She asked her community housing provider for answers but got none. Instead, she got an eviction notice under her door.

That’s when Bianca contacted our specialist Women’s Service, part of our Homeless Persons’ Legal Service. Our lawyers supported Bianca to challenge the eviction and rent increases, so she and her family could stay in their home, debt-free and without fear of eviction.

Bianca’s story is not unique. It’s one of many showing the system is failing the people it should be supporting. Our work in the Homeless Persons’ Legal Service challenges decision-makers to do better. We use stories like Bianca’s to show where laws and systems need to change.

Watch Bianca’s story to see the impact of the accessible, free legal support we offer.
