2SER: New domestic violence rental reforms need to be backed by action

A change to laws in NSW should make it easier for renters who are victim-survivors of domestic and family violence to leave dangerous situations and help them avoid homelessness.

The reforms have been welcomed by homelessness services, including the Justice and Equity Centre’s Homeless Persons’ Legal Service.

But they warn that the laws need to be backed by widely-available domestic violence services and community awareness of the changes. Alannah Daly from the Justice and Equity Centre joined 2SER Breakfast to discuss.
