Australian Pro Bono Centre: Responding to the Uluru Statement’s call for Truth

Excerpt from Australian Pro Bono Centre:

“We’re really proud of what this project has done – It provides a really forensic picture of the way in which much of what happened in this country was very deliberate” Professor Megan Davis.

Towards Truth is a groundbreaking truth-telling website shining a light on how laws and policies have impacted First Nations people since the first contact. A unique collaboration between the Justice and Equity Centre and UNSW’s Indigenous Law Centre (ILC) – and with major support from pro bono lawyers – it provides practical, foundational support for truth telling as called for by the Uluru Statement from the Heart.

Starting in NSW, and with potential to expand to other jurisdictions, Towards Truth uses laws, policies, parliamentary debates, articles, reports and case studies to demonstrate in forensic detail how the decisions of Australian parliaments and governments have dispossessed and disempowered First Nations people.
