Q News: NSW trans woman ‘put through hell’ by police complaint

Excerpt from Q News:

A transgender woman has spoken out after settling a discrimination and sexual harassment case against NSW corrective services and police over her treatment in a men’s prison.

Melissa Yarnold (above) brought the discrimination and sexual harassment complaint against NSW Police, Corrective Services NSW and Justice Health NSW.

The Justice and Equity Centre represented Melissa in the case before the Australian Human Rights Commission, which was recently settled on confidential terms.

Melissa said while she feels there’s been accountability, she’s speaking out because more needs to be done to make her state’s criminal legal system safe for trans and gender-diverse people.
