Join an expert panel discussing barriers to health care experienced by asylum seekers in Australian immigration detention.
About this event
PIAC is proud to launch its latest report, ‘Healthcare denied: Medevac and the long wait for essential medical treatment in Australian immigration detention’.
The report reveals that despite the intentions of the Medevac scheme, the Commonwealth is failing to provide basic medical care for people in Australian immigration detention.
The impact of this failure is severe. Delayed treatment and long-term confinement have compounded existing medical conditions with terrible consequences.
The report demonstrates urgent reform is needed to ensure health care in immigration detention is equivalent to Australian community standards.
Join an expert panel to explore creative and effective advocacy strategies to improve the quality, timeliness and oversight of healthcare for asylum seekers.
